Instagram users may choose to block other users for a variety of reasons. The same holds true for unblocking them; there could be various causes for doing so. You’ll need to regain access to their account if you inadvertently or impulsively blocked them. Thankfully, it’s not too complicated of a procedure.
Where to Locate a List of Blocked Users
You don’t have to manually enter each user’s handle one at a time to unblock them on Instagram. Everyone you block, whether they’re sending you spam, making posts you don’t want to see, or are just generally annoying, gets added to the same list.
Instagram users can only view their blacklist of accounts on iOS and Android devices.
Using an iPhone
If you have an iPhone, you can quickly and easily view a list of all of the accounts you have blocked on Instagram. This is how it works:
- Turn on your iPhone and open Instagram.
With Android
Instagram’s blacklist can be accessed in the same way on Android devices.
Using your Android device, launch the Instagram app.
- Select your profile picture from the right-hand side of the screen.
The “Unblock” button next to each user’s name in this section allows you to unblock them. If you’d like to block even more accounts, click the “+” in the top right and enter their usernames. You can prevent them from creating new accounts altogether by blocking their current one. The accounts you already follow will not be affected by this, so you may need to block them individually.
Instagram also provides a list of suggested accounts to block if you enable the Accounts Centre to synchronize your activity across multiple services. In other words, if you block someone on Facebook or Meta, Instagram will suggest blocking their connected accounts.
You can restrict access to your account or prevent users from commenting on your posts instead of blocking them. But these three deeds are distinct from one another. That’s why it’s important to know what they entail in advance.
Where Can I View My Teenager’s Blocked Users on Instagram?
Instagram is useful for keeping kids safe online and keeping parents informed of their whereabouts. Here’s what you need to do as a worried parent to view your teen’s list of blocked accounts:
- Get the Instagram app and sign in on your mobile device.
- To access “Settings and privacy,” tap the three vertical dots in the upper right.
- Go to the “For Families” tab and select “Supervision.”
- When you go to “Accounts,” click on the username whose blacklist you want to see.
- To view a list of blocked accounts, navigate to “Account info” then “Blocked accounts.”
Where Can I View a List of Users Who Have Been Blocked?
One of Instagram’s best features is the option to disable comments altogether or restrict them to followers only. This is helpful if you want to restrict who can leave comments on your posts, whether to stop spam or abuse or for any other reason. However, you can prevent specific individuals from leaving comments by simply blocking them.
- The Instagram app should be opened.
- Go to the “How others can interact with you” section and click “Comments.”
- Users who are unable to comment on your posts can now be identified.
Keep in mind that you can always add more people to your “Blocked Users” list, or unblock them by tapping the “Unblock” button next to their username if you change your mind.
This is not the same as blocking, so keep that in mind. Your content will still be accessible to the users. Furthermore, while everyone can see their comments in the past, only they can see their comments in the present.
The Effects of Blocking and Unblocking Individuals
When you block a user, you won’t be able to see their profile or interact with their posts until you unblock them. However, there may be alterations that you are unable to reverse.
If you block someone on social media, you will no longer be able to see their profile, including their number of followers and posts. You’ll need to re-follow that person once you unblock them.
When you block a user, you will no longer receive their messages, but they will still be able to send them to you if you have previously chatted with them. You won’t receive those messages again, even if you unblock the sender. Once you unblock them, they will reappear in your message requests even if you delete their chat from your inbox.
When you block someone on Instagram, they will no longer be able to like or comment on your posts. You can still like and comment on their posts, but they won’t be able to see your activity on their own profile. Restoring their likes and comments from before you unblocked them is not possible.
When you block someone, they can’t tag you in their posts. If you change your Instagram handle, people can still tag you if they know your new handle.
How to See If You’ve Been Blocked
While it’s not possible to see who has blocked you on Instagram, there are ways to find out if a user with whom you’ve had previous conversations has added you to their block list.
The search bar doesn’t show their username: If a user’s profile isn’t suggested as you start typing their username into Instagram’s search bar, it’s likely that they’ve blocked you.
If you have already messaged the user, look them up in your direct messages. They may have blocked you if their profile is blank.
If you have a second Instagram account or a friend who has access to the account in question, you can see if the user has blocked you. If you can’t reach them, it’s possible they’ve gone dormant.
If you want to visit their site, you can enter this address into your browser: A user has blocked you if their profile doesn’t appear when you visit instagram.com/username.
If you type the username of the person you think has blocked you and nothing happens, it’s possible that they have. Instagram doesn’t allow blocked users to tag the account that blocked them.
Will they find out if I block them or not?
Instagram users can’t see if another user has blocked them for malicious reasons. If someone has blocked you, they will not be able to see your profile or any of the content you have posted. Keep in mind that there are ways to infer that you have blocked someone, but doing so would require some familiarity with the targeted account.
When I block someone on Instagram, what happens to their likes and comments?
When you block someone on Instagram, they can no longer interact with your posts by liking or commenting on them. Do keep in mind that unblocking the user will not bring them back.
How does limiting access to an account vary from simply blocking it?
If you block someone on Instagram, you won’t be able to communicate with them until you unblock them. Restricting a user prevents them from seeing your online status or if you’ve read their messages. In addition, you will be warned before entering a group chat with a restricted user, and their messages will be moved back to the Message requests section. Finally, you will not be alerted to any new comments they make on your posts. If you do not select “See comment” or “Approve” to make them public, only they will be able to see them.
